BAND BOOSTERS
Coronado Dons’ Band Boosters
is a non-profit incorporated group with three main goals:
The Band Boosters are an
integral part of the band program. The
Boosters hold monthly meetings at the band room on the second Tuesday of each
month. The Boosters elect officers to
comprise an executive board (“e-board”) to carry out the decisions made by the
Booster membership. Major actions of the
Boosters are decided by a majority vote of dues-paying Booster members present
at the meeting, as long as a quorum exists.
The Boosters act in close cooperation with the band director.
Membership dues for the
Boosters are $5 per year per person.
All band parents are welcome
to attend the meetings, whether Booster members or not. The Boosters understand that each parent’s
degree of commitment to the Boosters and the band program depends on the amount
of time each parent has to offer.
Parents can assist the band program and the Boosters in many ways.
Below are the main
responsibilities and activities of the Boosters:
Fund Raising
The Boosters work to develop
opportunities to raise funds to support the band program. Funds raised by the Boosters are used to help
defray the numerous expenses of the band program, such as music and drill
purchases, transportation, instrument repair and additional part-time band
instructors. The Boosters also use funds
to help purchase equipment and to run special events such as the annual awards
banquet. A small part of the money
raised is used for administration and insurance for the Booster organization.
One of the major fund raisers
for the Boosters is concession sales at home football games. The Band Boosters cooperate with the sports
boosters and PTO to share the work load, expenses and profits generated from
concessions. Several volunteers are
needed at each game to help set up, run and clean up concessions.
In some fund raising
activities, band students can receive financial credit for their
participation. Prior to an activity, the
Boosters assign a certain percentage of the funds earned by each student who
participates to go to that student’s account.
The Boosters hold the money in the student accounts and then release it
upon request, to be used for any band or music-related expenses such as shoes,
uniform cleaning, lessons or band trips.
Fanny Runners
Booster volunteers are need
at each band performance to cover the bleacher seats to keep the band members’
white pants clean and white.
Hydration Team
At least four volunteers are
needed to fill water coolers, bring them to the stadium and to hand out cups of
water to band members during games. Band
members need to stay hydrated!
Chaperones
Adult (age 21+) chaperones
are needed for band camp and for all other out-of-town trips made by the
band. A reasonable ratio of adults to
students is necessary for each trip.
Chaperones typically pay the same cost for the trip as each band
student.
